Can you bake a cake with olive oil?

Ran out of vegtable oil, its snowing alot and Im hoping i can use olive oil instead ?

  • not sure on olive iol-but I think you can substitute apple sauce

  • If it's a vanilla cake, just add a little more vanilla extract. It may cook slightly faster. It won't really change the flavor.

  • You could use butter if you have that on hand. My sister used olive oil once in a cake when I was a kid. My family teased her a lot about it, but I don't remember it tasting different.

  • I once used olive oil in brownies. It tasted a little weird, but we ate them anyway.

  • If you have light olive oil you will get a better result but EVOO can be used. It just might have a slight "fruity" flavor. Melted butter works really well too. I've melted Crisco in a pinch too.

  • Use applesauce. It won't affect the taste and will reduce the fat.
