Get your cucumbers or whatever other item you want to pickle. Soak it in a brine at least overnight. Then mix up your pickling mix, bring it to a boil, put it and the vegetable in sterile canning jars. Probably you have to water bath it to make a safe canned product, but if you wanted to, you could refrigerate it. If you want to make pickled eggs, you just soak the hard cooked eggs in pickled beet juice, refrigerated.
