Why do people with braces have to have the rubberbands in their mouth?

  • I had an over bite. It pulls the jaw back gradually. It hurts like hell....

  • not all people with braces do. i did at certain times when i had braces, but not the whole time. and i honestly don't remember the exact reason. i assume that it assists in moving the teeth more quickly....

  • Yep it does make for a sore mouth but if you have an over bite or cross bite they are needed. I had them when I was happy that I had it done early and out of the way..

  • Not everyone with braces has to get rubber bands. Its meant for people with bite problems. Like an overbite, underbite, or crossbite. I had to wear them for awhile when I had braces. It just pulls your jaw into the correct position. It sucks wearing rubber bands. I hated it.
