thumb sucking

how is the best way to stop thumb sucking he is 19 months i really dont know why i let him start he only sucks it when he is sleepy so he rubs his eyes too

  • if he only sucks it when he is sleepy then just let him. he will stop on his own. anyway its not a problem until they are abt 3 or 4 years old and then too if they are doing it all day long and its affecting other development. just let him suck it till he falls asleep and then remove the thumb.
    my son sucked his thumb too when he was sleepy and sometimes when he was getting bored. once when we went out of town he sucked it all night (i guess it was a chan ge of bed or something) and got a boil on his thumb which i had to bandage. that was the end of the thumb sucking. thereafter he restarted a few months later and stopped when he was abt 3. he is 5 now and is absolutely fine (and no marks left back on his thumb either)
