  • I would say at least 2 if not 3 times a day. You may want to keep a chart for a few days to get an accurate idea of how often your child has BMs. Then talk with your doctor to make sure it is enough.

  • I agree with Imamom2. This is NOT a slam on formula feeding, but breast milk is more efficiently absorbed by the baby, with less "waste" to expel, so they don't have bowel movements as often. When my kids were babies and nursing exclusively, they only went like twice a week. Now, there were lots of wet diapers though!

With my first, I asked our Ped. and he explained that this was normal and not to worry about it. I didn't ask with my 2nd, because I remembered what I was told with the first.

Neither of them had any health problems from it :-)

  • A breastfed baby may go more that a week without a bowel movement.

  • How are they fed? Not sure on FF babies, but at this age, a BF baby can be expected to have a BM as often as every feeding and as far as once every 7-10 days. AS LONG AS the poop is NOT dry, hard or pellet like.

  • Formula fed usually is a couple of times a day to once every other day. If she is struggling to poop or its hard when she does go, I'd recommend having her checked.

BF is what they all said above ^^^^^
