What can I do for my constipation when breastfeeding?

I've tried fiber and a stool softener, plus I've been eating the foods that normally do the trick. It's been 3 days and nothing! Help, please!

  • First I'd take an enema and get that out then try eating more fiber

  • Continue the high-fiber diet, cut out things like cheese (it causes constipation), add a good quantity of red/purple grape juice (Hensen's or Juicy Juice do the trick for me), & then do an enema. That combination should definitely help things get going. If, however, you still haven't gone after 48hrs of grape juice & enemas, you should head to an urgent care to see if they can figure it out or pump it out (gross I know, but there may be a clog or another medical issue that needs to be addressed).

  • @WannabeMommy87: JuicyJuice is mostly Apple juice(No matter the flavor)...the sorbitol is what helps you go...LOL Just thought I would put that out there.

  • Eliminate meat, bananas, dairy, simple grains like white flour and white rice, processed sugars. Drink lots of water; at least 8 8oz glasses a day. Build your meals around vegetables, whole grains, legumes and fruits; send me a message offlist if you need meal or recipe ideas.
