  • Your local elementary school will have a "kindergarten round up" Sometime in the next couple of months. You can call the school closest to you and ask when it is. You will need his birth certificate and shot records, some proof of address. They will also have a huge packet of forms for you to fill out.

  • Summer usually is the best time but you need to ask around the district to be sure sometimes it is earlier.

  • Call your district because our schools are closed during the summer and wont accept new registration until a few days before school starts if you didnt register at the kindy round up before the end of the school year. It works the same way for our high school and middle school, if we dont go to the registration day students wont be given a schedule or even put into the class list until the first day of school.

  • Every school/district is different. You have to call and ask. Our school (which is Catholic) is doing registration right now. It's the only way to guarantee a spot for your child next year. if you register them after March they might be put on a wait list because the class is full.
The public schools are also doing registration soon because they go year round but since they are public you can try and register your child at any time. At our public schools that's risky because if they are filled up they will ship your kid to another school.
When my oldest started kindergarten we had just moved and we registered her 2 weeks before the school year started.

  • I have a special needs child, and called the school system's main office to find out about registration, transport, and the necessary paperwork for him to start school. Good luck!

  • Our school is having kindy registration NOW. Call your local school to find out when theirs is going on. For us we need: Birth certificate, shot records and proof of residence (deed to the house, lease, what have you) Since your child has special needs find out when (not IF) you can meet with the Special Needs team to put together a plan to make sure your child is successful in school. Busing is not mandatory here in CO so no one is entitled to busing- you need to check on that is well so if need be- you can make plans for transportation. I know it seems early- but start planning now- get it all done and then you can have a relaxing Summer knowing you have it taken care of. Also for us (may not be for you) if you we place kids in AM or PM kindy on a first come/first served basis. One more thing to think of with the May birthday- see if there is a pre-K program that may be a better fit. CONT

  • Schools usually have Kindergarten Round Up for the next school year and they are usually held in May. Find out first which school he will be attending and then call the school to ask them when they are taking registrations for the next year.
