sticky vaginal discharge in a newborn girl

i know that there is some discharge in newborns girls due to the mothers hormones but my little girl is a month old and although the sticky mucous has reduced it has not gone completely. my pedi told me to keep wiping it with oil by the little one hates it when i do that. when does it go off completely.
also a little area around her vagina is much darker than the rest which appears pink. is that normal?

  • it's normal, i have a 3 week old and some days she still has it. but you don't really have to mess with it, trying to wipe it away just bothers them and it will self-clean itself out.
