How much should a 5yr 8month old boy sleep?

Right now he's at about 7 hours, 8 if we're REAL lucky with an hour in the afternoon where we force him to lay in bed with a pile of books or quiet toys to rest.... about 1 day out of the week he'll actually nap.

Today his breathing has gone to hell so I'm kicking his nebulizer back into gear... and the steroids will knock his sleep to more like 5 hours a night.

How does he survive on so little sleep?
