How did my kid get green eyes???

I have blue eyes and Dh has brown. I can't think of anyone in either of our families who has green eyes. He is 11 months old. They were blue when he was born and turned green at about 6 or 7 months. Could they be slowly turning brown? It seems crazy to me.

  • They might turn out hazel. That's what happened to my brother. His dad (we have diff. dads) has brown eyes and our mom has blue eyes. Brother's eyes were green when little and when he became a teen, they turned hazel. Whatever the reason, it is always because of genetics.

  • Yeah it bothers me cuz people will say thing like "must be from his real dad." Implying that I must have cheated.

  • My parents both have brown eyes. My sister has hazel.

    Nothing weird about that, OP!

  • Genetics are weird. Random recessive features can show up after generations of not being around.

  • my parents both have blue eyes, all 5 of my brothers and sisters have bllue eyes. I have grren eyes. The only person anyone remembers having green eyes was three generations back. Genetics are random. recessive genes can linger for generations and then Pop up.

  • In genetics it only takes one ancestor with green eyes, could be far back. Tell people who say rude things to go back to school and learn some basic genetics.

  • Someone, somewhere in your family had green eyes. Don't let other people's stupidity get to you.

  • Babies eyes change colors; my daughter's eyes were blue until just before her second birthday (now they are brown)

  • I have brown eyes, and my daughters father is portugues with brown eyes also....portuguese people all have brown eyes....but my daughter has blue eyes. She was born with blue eyes and is over 2years old and still has blue eyes. I don't know where she got them either...and i KNOW she is his child because we had a paternity test done in court for child support so don't even think that.

Bottom line....it just happens. The genes can go as far back as before you were even born. Somebody in one of your families must have had blue eyes. But then again...my cousin's eyes were blue until she was 3 and then they changed to brown.
