  • XL twin sheets and comforter set (thats the size a dorm room bed is). bathroom caddy (to keep her hair brush, toothbrush, etc in and have a easy way to carry it to the bathroom), bathroom towel (2), washclothes (4) and handtowels (2). shower shoes (old navy flip flops work great cause they keep you from slipping). closet organizers to stay organized. microwave. over the door mini ironing board, and iron. mini fridge (it may come with one). desk lamp (they usually just have one overhead light, and she'll need a light on her desk or by her bed for when she needs to study and roomie is sleeping) curtains!, small trash can and bags. under the bead organizer - they sell them on they're amazing and she will appreciate having that extra space to keep things!

i'll add more if i think of them or you can pm me

  • Oh - laundry bag or hamper and detergent, dryer sheets, etc. Alarm clock. Ipod dock (obviously optional). I would get her a small plastic container and put all the meds and things she could need: tylenol, midol, advil, aleve, motrin, allergy meds, bandaids, antibiotic cream, tweezers, alcohol pads, cough drops, pepto bismol,, ice pack, thermometer etc.

lots and lots of rolls of quarters for the vending machines and for laundry!

i would also put together a bin of personal needs items: nail clippers, toe nail clippers, files, tweezers, whatever she uses!

can opener and chip clips. thats how college kids eat lol (i was just living in a dorm 2 years ago, so i have a lot of experience here hehe)

    power strip.

and an area rug (this might be something she waits to get once she's there, due to her and roomie both having to use this) but those floors are SO cold at night!

  • First, get a regulations and rules list from the dorm. Most colleges/Universities have them on their website. Some colleges/Uni's allow things that others don't. You don't want to buy her something that she will not be able to use in the dorm.

    Mini Fridge
    Bedding set
    towels, wash cloths
If it is a community shower, then she will need a shower caddy to hold all of her bathroom neccessities. Also she will need flip flops to wear in the shower. You never know what is growing in there.
A plastic drawer system, trunk, or some sort of shelving unit to house her school supplies and personal items.
    An area rug.
Pictures of family and friends to hang up.

  • to people ever read the previous responses? if so, theyd see that 90% of what they typed, has already been wrtitten, ugh..
id say a full length mirror to place on the back of their door. i had one and it was a lifesaver!

i would say that a tv/dvd player/vcr is something you shouldn't buy. they have those on every floor (typically) and they don't need to be watching tv instead of studying.

something cool to do for them would be to get a menu from all of the delivery restuarants that deliver to the dorms, in their city and have them in a folder ready for her. also - make a list of the restaurants/cafes/coffee shops within walking distance of her dorm. it helps to know these things =)

ohh, a big one would be a wireless card for her laptop! there's nothing worse than having homework that needs to be done, a few extra hours to kill, and NO internet =(

  • Contact her roommate so the can coordinate what each will bring. You don't want 2 microwaves, couches, fridges, ect.
