Could we be wrong about global warming?

Could the best climate models -- the ones used to predict global warming -- all be wrong?

Maybe so, says a new study published online today in the journal Nature Geoscience. The report found that only about half of the warming that occurred during a natural climate change 55 million years ago can be explained by excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. What caused the remainder of the warming is a mystery.

"In a nutshell, theoretical models cannot explain what we observe in the geological record," says oceanographer Gerald Dickens, study co-author and professor of Earth Science at Rice University in Houston. "There appears to be something fundamentally wrong with the way temperature and carbon are linked in climate models."

Have we been duped by theoretical climate models?

  • Global warming is a myth. The proponents of global warming have already admitted that - that's why the trendy new term for it is "climate change."

  • well the biggest issue with trying to figure out things is that we are actually still in the tail end of an ice age

  • i believe they are things change like the weather it all is cycles

  • Global warming is not a myth. Just look at the weather patterns lately. Last summer my parents who live in indiana had in influx of rain and barely hit their "average" high all summer. My sister was ticked because she is a total sun-worshipper and loves being in their pool. Most of her summer and her kids summer was spent indoors. They've had more tornadoes and violent weather up there, which for as long as I've lived back home we NEVER had tornadoes. strong storms yes were common, but not tornadoes. And where I live now, we barely reached 110, let alone our average highs of the high triple digit teens and 20's. It was somewhat mild here, for desert living this summer. Lots of 80's and 90's til june.

I disagree that we are wrong about global warming. It's just some people's choice to live in denial and pretend something that is there really isn't because it's "politically/socially correct" to do so. JMO.

The leading climate change activists and scientists disagree with you - that's why they stopped talking about global warming and started talking about climate change. About 2 years of growth at the polar cap proved their previous hypothesis wrong, so they had to regroup and come up with a new one.

  • Cinder.... One bad summer with a lot of rain and storms and mild temps, and that proves that those of us who didn't buy into global warming are living in "denial"? Yeah, lots of logic there. Never mind that even the scientists don't believe in global warming.

  • Cinder, you are a bit behind the curve. The earth is now experiencing global cooling, confirmed by all four major global temperature tracking outlets. Hadley, NASA's GISS, UAH, RSS have released updated data. All show that over the past year, global temperatures have dropped precipitously. Not to mention top UN scientists are predicting global cooling, they expect cooling for the next 30 years.

  • I find it funny that people insist Global Warming exists, all while talking about how unnaturally cool the temperatures are in their area. LOL

  • I agree with NP on this. GW has been debunked, so now we have Climate Change.

It's a convenient title; that way when the weather patterns don't follow certain predictions *cough* GoresHockeyStickGraph *cough* they can still claim they are right.

Anyone want to buy some carbon credits?  I'm selling them real cheap!  Buy yours NOW!  LOL
