is there anything i can do? im so upset.

I'll try to make this as short as possible... I am recently a single mom, busting my ass to make ends meet for me & my son. I have worked in Child Care for over 8yrs now, not a single complaint from any parent. I have been with the latest daycare since they day they opened a little over a yr ago. i even got "teacher of the quarter" over 10 centers owned by this company. Parents & co workers LOVE me! well i have had 1 parent complain, she over my boss & went straight to corporate which was odd. Well i guess she wasnt happy with the outcome, i guess she was expecting me to get fired right away but even my boss loves me. She decided to talk to another parent who she then got to complain on my yesterday so now the 2 women are claiming that they fear the safety of their children and we even have camera's in our room where they can watch. So corporate called & had my boss fire me, Parents are outraged & are writing letters now....

  • if you work in an at will state, sadly there is nothing you can do

  • that is not true peanutsmommy. these parents slandered her and cost her her job. so she can actually sue

Answer by sati769leigh at 3:27 PM on Feb. 9, 2010

  • yes, but she will have to find a lawyer to do it pro bono
and prove that they parents were lying

  • I do work in a state that they can fire you for absolutely no reason but i have been told that i can sue b/c these women complained & that this is what actually cost me my job. they both know that im a single mom, but b/c they "have money" i guess they dont care that what they are claiming would actually cost me & my childs well being. this has completely turned my world upside down. there is no way i would harm anyones child to begin with & 2nd i deff wouldnt b/c if someone ever harmed my child i would loose my mind on them!!

  • she was on camera with a perfect record? yup. she has a case RIGHT there. and there are lawyers out there who will take these cases pro bono

  • I work with child care providers daily...
even if you know who complained, they are protected under the whistleblowers.. and chances are they did not have to give the corporate office their names

  • Lawyers will do free consults. It would be best if you talked to one.

  • I know exactly who they 2 women are & every teacher is on camera in that building, YES they are lying & i can prove it & my boss can prove it, we have had issues with 1 complaining about everything even the wall color & wanted me to repaint the room when i wasnt even the one who picked nor painted the room, she said it was too BRIGHT & looked like a burst of sunshine. I really dont care if they are protected by whistleblowers...... i dont even know what that is to be honest but they gave their names & i believe i have every right to know who & why, now that i know im absolutely disgusted with these women & i want something done about it. I will have something done about it. i have a perfect record & am constantly on camera along with every teacher. Those women have NO idea what i deal with on a daily basis, i practically raise their children & now they wanna complain! I will stand behind myself along with the whole center!

  • Yes you can absolutely sue for defamation of character, especially since the false accusations lead to you being fired.
