How old are babies when they usually have their first laugh?

My son is now 2 weeks old, he smiles sometimes but hasn't laughed yet.. I know it'll take awhile but I was just curious. :)

  • I can't say for all babies but my DD was laughing in her sleep since around 3-4 weeks. It was like a laugh with no noise to it, if you understand what I'm saying. By 3.5 months, I can tickle her and she will laugh up a storm but it's still not a laugh like you or I would do. It's just like a little baby chuckle.
It's hard to explain but it's the cutest thing ever.

  • Oh, mine wasn't until around 3 or 4 mos. She was a pretty unhappy newborn, tho.

  • I know exactly what you mean by the soundless laugh in their sleep Marix3. My middle son did that at 3 or 4 weeks too. Other than that though, 3 or 4 months sounds about right.
