If your mailbox falls down can you just go to the post office to get your mail? Or do they wait until you can put your mailbox back up?

  • Hubby works at the post office in S.C he says you have 10 days to put the box back up, after that it is returned to sender. He said your carrier should notify u of this & until u have put back up, the carrier should give u the mail if you meet him @ the box. Hope this helps

  • meme's not too up on her USPS rules & regs. If you don't have it up, it'll be held at the p.o. Yes, you can go pick it up, but they'll only hold it for so long - you HAVE to put your box back up. They won't "return to sender" though, but they can refuse to give it to you if too much time passes. You cannot collect your mail by meeting your deliverer out there, especially on a daily basis. If it's a driven route, they'll watch for you to put it back up - THEN start taking your mail along on the route - if you go too many days with it down, they will leave your mail behind at the P.O. Just get the thing put back up so you don't have to worry about it.
