How do you get rid of the food smell after cooking?

  • I open a window or door and let some fresh air circulate. That's easier in the summer, but even 5 minutes in the winter helps alot.

  • If you can't or don't want to open a window and don't want to add the pollution of candles burning indoors (wick and wax soot, carbon and whatever the scent is made from that doesn't magically disappear when it's burned), a spray bottle with plain fresh water will take a lot of the smells out of the air.

If you feel like it you can make 'linen spray' by adding your favourite essential oil to the water (like a few drops to 8oz of water).

  • Put some baking soda and water in crockpot right after dinner and let it go for a few hours after dinner until you go to bed. The baking soda absorbs the foul odors.

  • You can put vinegar on a dish rag and swing it around in the room.No foolin'!

  • I always burn a candle when I cook and leave it burning until I go to bed. It helps to clean the kitchen immediately after cooking and eating, too. Oh, and take out the trash if some of the food got thrown in there.
