Any ideas on games/activities for a 5 yr old girls birthday party?

We are inviting her pre-school class over to celebrate with her. There will be a mixture of boys and girls. All of the children will be 4 and 5 years old.

  • We played musical chairs, it fun but we added the rule if you loose your chair you get a freeze pop after the first 2 kids started crying after they lost. No more tears. The kids were 4 and 5.

  • Some sort of arts & crafts project might be fun. You could let them decorate something and give out prizes.

Pin the tail on the donkey (or something like that) would be fun, but I'd use something sticky like tape rather than a pin.

Split the kids into two groups and tell one group to act like a certain animal without telling the other group and see if they can guess.

Give them balloons and have them race while carrying the balloons between their knees and not using their hands.

Set up a ring toss game or other carnival style game.

If you have large smooth surface that suction cups will stick to, buy a couple of nerf guns with suction cup darts and let them shoot at targets (we drew circles on the outside of our sliding glass doors with dry erase markers).

  • A treasure hunt would be fun. You could make clues that are pictures, or you could just read the clues to them.

  • pinatas are fun
pin the tail on the donkey can be changed to match any theme like pin (tape really) the crown on the princess. pin the nose on the snowman...etc
easy games are great like simon says, red light green light, etc

  • We did painting your own plastic sun catcher. They are inexpensive and the child can take them home. They really aren't all that messy. Cover your table with a plastic cover. let the children stand around the table and paint. It was really fun for the kids.
