how do u handle.....

how do you handle the terriable 2's tantram???????..... every now and again my son will kick and scream and holler for no reason, will not take a sippy cup, won't let me hold him this usually happens during the day while his father is at work! and i plainly don't know what to do with him when he gets like this!

  • yep, walk away if he is in a safe area. If you give attention he will think he is getting his way.

  • There is a reason for every behavior. He is getting "something" out of the tantrum. It could be as simple as getting your undevided attention.
    The first thing you need to do is take inventory of what is going on just before the tantrum hits. Is he hungry? Is he tired? Is he overwhelmed or over-stimulated? Does he want something but doesn't have the skills to communicate his needs?
    If it is happening while his father is at work - test the possibility that he may be missing his dad. Offer him a picture of dad or if it's possible for him to be contacted while at work - see if your son would like to call dad to hear his voice.

    Children are good at reading parents - if you are stressed or upset, then he will become stressed and upset feeding off of your energy. It is important for you to remain calm. You need to be his "rock" so that he can find his way back to a peaceful place.
