Fat Tuesday...

I think it is a time for Mardi Gras but I seem to remember it connected to Lent when I was a kid. Is there a connection to religion on this day? From a long time ago I thought I heard it was a time to get rid of the dairy products in the house.

  • Fat Tuesday was the last day you could eat rich fatty foods before having to fast for the Lenten season. So in many cultures they would eat up all the things they were not allowed to have over the 40 days, like eggs, butter, and milk. (which is why some eat pancakes on that day).

  • It's the big raucous party before the Lenten season of fasting and abstinence.

Like binging on cookies the day before I "start my diet".
