I made a beef roast in the crock pot, and it was dried out and tough. What did I do wrong?

  • you need to brown it first before it goes in. temp may have been too high or you cooked it too long. I make mine in the oven. 6 hrs at 250 degrees.

  • Did you add water? I always make sure it's enough to cover plus at least a 1/4 inch.

  • Must not have been enough liquid (water, broth). Pretty much anything you make in a crockpot needs a liquid of some sort.

  • it sounds like you didn't use enough liquid. or maybe the setting was too high for too long of a period of time.

  • make sure you add enough water, cook on LOW and dont lift the lid until you are pretty sure its almost done....I like my crock because it has a tiny hole on the top that I can stick the digital thermometer in to check all without taking the top off, you loose steam and moisture that way, so dont check on it too much.

  • You either cooked it too long (on high for about 4-5 hours, on low for about 8 hours) or didn't add enough water.

  • Water makes the meat moist. Looks like you've got beef jerky now. :P
