3 month old sleeping question..

my son is 3 and a half months old. he sleeps through the night. every time i go check on him he's either on his side sleeping or on his belly, no matter how many times i put him back on his back he goes right back to either his side or tummy. is it okay to let him?

  • Put him down on his back and then go enjoy a good night's sleep! He is fine, once they start rolling themselves over like that you just leave them alone. No reason to re-position him all night long!

  • One my kids could flip over, they always slept on their tummies. I would put them down to sleep on their back, but they would flip over on their own. The dr's always told me this was fine - there's not much you can do, short of putting a positioning sleeper in their crib.

  • If he's rolling over, he can sleep any position he wants, that's what my pediatrician told me

  • Yes it's fine. My mom put me and my sisters on our bellies since the day we were born...we slept better that way. They've changed sleeping positions of babies a million times. Just make sure there is no soft bedding, blankets, or pillows near her and she'll be just fine.

  • tummy sleeping is dangerous moreso when you have blankys, pillows, crib bumber and stuffed animals. if the crib is clear than leave the baby alone and let him sleep!!!

  • I really wouldn't worry - my daughter has been sleeping on her belly since she was about 5 weeks old & she's now 12 weeks. Like PP said, as long as there is no soft bedding or anything that baby can get his face squished into, he will be fine.

  • My pediatrician said not to worry if they are doing it themselves. Just place him on his back each night and then let him get comfortable on his own. Sounds like he is doing like my first 2 and learned to roll back to belly before belly to back and this can be scary. My pediatrician also recommended more tummy time to build of the muscles so mine would roll back on their backs sooner.
