Hello & thanks for asking. In Islam, there is no prohibition of eating shell-fish. I am a practicing Muslim and I have NO idea what sophiaoflight is talking about there being more than one sunni sect?? Islam is based on the Holy Quran and Sunnah- life of Prophet Muhammad and the prohibitions are clear. Beside meat from the pig, Muslims are not allowed to eat carnivorous animals, and all animals that are eaten are to be slaughtered appropriately by mentioning God's Name and doingthe least harm to the animal. Pig-meat and intoxicants such as alcohol are forbidden. But lobster, crabs, oysters and clams are ok...plz feel free to pm with more questions or if you need a link. Be careful because not everyone someone says about Islam is true and there should ALWAYS be a reference to the Quran and Sunnah in any correct information given.
peace to you..
