truancy laws

I know of a school aged child 16 yrs old who has not been in school this entire school year. The social workers were looking for child and parent. Couldn't reach them...so now it is in the district attorney's hands....what will happen next? Does that parent have much to fear?

  • I think it depends on the state you live in and the school district. Some districts fine the parent $100.00 a day. The parent may have to sign the child out of school, since the child is 16 years old. They may let the child come back to school but, the child will have to repeat the entire year that they missed.
