Is she sick or teething?

DD has had a runny nose for the past week or so. She has been chewing on everything like crazy, and has been more fussy than usual. At night, she has trouble sleeping and even coughs a few times. Her voice is raspy. But during the day she seems relieved of the coughing and raspy voice. Is she sick or just teething? Is it safe to take her to childcare while I work out? She is 1.

  • With both of my kiddos, they would start to feel under the weather and you could tell it in their eyes. They never had a cough or a raspy voice but they did get fevers and have loose bowels. She is probably just getting in those little chompers but I would take her to the doctor just to make sure!! Get ready for the teeth marks momma!!;) Good luck!

  • Take her to a dr. just to b safe but it sounds like teething. I would have a friend or relative watch her this time just in case.

  • It's not safe for your 1 year old to be in group care during the cold, flu, and RSV season. If you are concerned about the other kids then as long as she doesn't have a fever it would be considered OK to take her.

The thing is most infections are contagious before the fever and may be even before any symptoms. That's why kids are at so much rish with their weak immune systems when they are around other kids. If she is breastfeeding she is at less risk. There is something called lysozymes that fights infections that is more highly concentrated in the milk of mothers of toddlers.
