ginger quest. (when cooking)

Is "ground ginger" a spice you can buy in the spice isle and "grated fresh ginger root" the same thing? I am making "slow cooker orange chicken" and it calls for 1 TBSP. of "grated fresh gingerroot." I have a container of "ground ginger" would that work? I have never cooked with ginger root before? thanks!

would it really taste different if I left it out?

  • if the container you have is dry, then its not fresh, but its all from the root. You can buy "fresh ground ginger and dry ground ginger, and you can buy the whole root in the produce department to grind it yourself. you can interchange them all, but If you have the dry powder kind then I would use about 25% more. The flavor will be very different if you leave it out.
