have you been dealing with this?

What is it with overboard clinginess? Anyone else dealing with it? With my 11 yo dd she's going overboard with the hugs and passed on to clinginess esp when around other people (like company). Any clues on curbing it? I've talking to her about it, and it's not helped.

  • Try getting her involved in community groups away from actual after school groups. Girl Scouts, 4H, maybe volunteer at a local preschool after school, help out in the public library ...

Also, maybe something's going on at school or in neighborhood being teased by kids. Try asking a trusted guidance counselor at school to walk through your dd's lunch and separately gym class and locker room and see what's up. It has to be confidential from other kids parents and your dd that counselor or another teacher would be doing that, for it to work.

    Good luck!

  • A lot is going on with kids that age..their hormones start to change, it is usually when bullying begins, she may be experiencing those or something else and is trying to hold on to what she knows and is comforting. Try some one on one time with her , take some walks to a local park or go out to lunch..maybe she will open up and you can figure out why she is acting so differently.

  • Mine is the same way. Her bff stayed over & she was constantly hanging on her. I told her that someday someone will interpret her clingyness the wrong way & she'll get hurt. That seemed to get her attention.
