does your kid have an epi pen and/or asthma inhaler at school?

is yes, where is it kept? who has access? did you train them? what if that person(s) is absent that day?

PS obviously not relevant for a much older child. I am talking young enough child that would need assistance ... and I don't even think a 9or10 yr old could give themselves an Epi shot necessarily...

  • SD and SS both have asthma medications at school. SS has never used it EVER so the nurse would have to help him if he needed it. SD has used hers so she needs not instruction. The nurse has been trained in these areas. Also, the staff in the office is pretty competent and could figure out SS's inhaler thing. All their meds are in the office. We don't want SD carrying her because she use to say she was wheezing when she wasn't....so we dont want her using it when she doesn't need it.

  • DD has an epi-pen at school. It's kept at the nurse's office which is very close to her classroom. All of our teachers, nurses, and administrators are trained how to use them.

  • DD has an epi-pen and benedryl at school. It's kept in the nurses office which is staffed by two nurses. When one is out, there's an sub-RN on duty. Megan's teacher is trained how to use it, as well as what symptoms to look out for, etc. FWIW she is a 5 year old in kindergarten. We do limit her to no-outside food. She can only eat what we send in. To help with this, we keep a supply of cupcakes and donut holes in the freezer at the nurses off too. When special treats come into class, Megan goes to the nurse to retrieve her safe alternatives. She loves it, actually. She always has something she likes. ;)
