My son is picking at his fingernails and making himself bleed!

He just won't stop - he's been doing it for months now. Its like he does it unconsciously, he doesn't even look at his fingers when he's picking at them. I'm a little more concerned b/c I have trichotillamania (obsessive hair pulling, a compulsive spectrum disorder), and I'm worried he's developing something similar. But he's only 2 - and I don't want him "labeled" so early, so I'm looking to just deal w/ it on my own. Has anyone else dealt with nail picking, and what helped?

  • Well, if you have that, the chances of him having it are pretty good and who cares if he's labeled at this age, at least maybe you could get help early on for him so it won't cause issues or unneeded pain
