Are kids under 18 allowed to visit someone in the Hospital yet?

I'm asking because I want my daughter to go the hospital to meet her new brother or sister. We still have ways to go lol I'm not due until October. But I'm just curious.

  • at my local hospitals they are, but just call YOUR hospital and ask! or maybe go to their website, they should have their current visitors policy posted on it somewhere

  • It varies depending on the hospital, and sometimes even within the same hospital. Children were allowed in the maternity ward where my twins were born within certain hours, but only over 14 years after 7 or 8 pm. Some areas of the hospital (intensive care units, and places with very seriously ill patients) never allow visitors under 14.

  • yes but they might check to see if they're healthy in throat maybe lungs. hospitals don't want sick visitors visiting sick patients or new babies and moms. Some hospitals have Caring Bridge something like that where new babies can be seen through computer camera by family and friends outside of hospital.

My two older kids were in waiting room while I had youngest. Now a days health scares keep hospitals often from allowing visitors of any age in especially in fall winter months.

  • it depends on the hospital mine let anyone come as long as they werent sick but then there are other hospital not far form us that you have to be over the age of 12 unless you were the sibling

  • check with your local hospital. i know that sibling are allowed but only during certain months if there under a certain age. since younger children are more germy and sicklier than older children.

  • At my hospital yes, but they have restricted hours. Generally after 8:30 pm you must be over 18 to continue visiting.

  • With L&D recovery I'm pretty sure it's all age limits as long as it's within the hours of visitation. When my grandmother was in ICU they wouldn't allow anyone under 16 to enter, but we still managed to get my 13 yo cousins back there. We just had to mentally prepare them first so they didn't freak out, but that was ICU. Check with your hospital. Mine only has age restrictions on ICU.
