Issues on which you have changed your mind after researching?

When answering a question earlier, I started thinking about all of the things I used to be so sure about...issues that I took a certain stance on, only to change my mind after personal experiences or researching, like homeschooling, marijuana, global warming, the war, etc. It makes me appreciative of my ability to open my mind and learn, and admit that I was wrong!

Anyone else? What are your 'issues'?

  • I love learning about all kinds of things and forming opinions based on information but also keeping an open mind cause what works for me doesnt aways work for everyone else.

I could add to your list relationship dynamics, education, breastfeeding, parenting, politics, religion, finances, lifestyles (like country vs city) and many more!

  • A lot of things have confirmed what I already believed. Research on proposition 8 (for heterosexual marriage) convinced me not to vote on it at all. I'm starting to think more about being vegan.......

  • I am the same way. I pride myself on being open minded and having the ability to learn and grow from my experiences. My mom would say "You used to say ....." and I just tell her "I used to say a lot of things." I have strong opinions, strong beliefs, and I am very firm in where I stand. I am however very much human and do glitch up sometimes. Whether it's believing a certain way, agreeing with something, or even just doing/saying something. I am not above admitting when I'm wrong (though it's not always easy) and learning from that mistake/mess up.

    Some things I've changed are:

Parenting techniques. I had big ideals before I had kids, but things changed for the better when I actually had children. I learned through trial and error and I've raised some darn good kids.
Politics .. My beliefs on certain politics have changed.
Religion. My beliefs have changed on that.

I won't go into detail, but I learn and grow.

  • Pit Bulls. I was always one of those people who said they should be outlawed. After researching and talking with people I realized they were misunderstood. Now I have one and I am so glad I changed my mind because he is the most loving dog I have ever had.

  • Well, I really love learning new things and i research a lot of things. I have changed my ways over the past few years, but that's because previously, when my boys were little, I did not research anything. Now, we use organic milk, eat natural meats, still do vax my kids but I've researched it now, I don't buy many kids toys made in China (I try to buy USA or from quality companies in countries like Germany or Spain), we've been eating healthier because I never knew how bad almost all convenience/processed foods are for you, I've broadened my religious horizons though am still a Christian. Those are things I've changed in the past 5 years or so, among other things I am sure.

  • rkoloms, I agree with you especially about the body care products and cleaning products. After much research, we use California Baby products for my kids, and I also clean 95% of the time with just vinegar and water, baking soda, and lemon juice. Excellent cleaners!
