  • YES I have, just week ago in fact.

Someone posted a question about what Mormons believe. (No i am not Mormon) Someone repied about how God gives us our bodies and what we do with it is our choice and we suffer the consquences of those choices. It really was the tip of the iceberg for me; I quit smoking right then and there.

  • Arguments or people just out to prove someone else wrong- no.

Respectful and thoughtful discussions - yes.

  • Yes, actually. Through debate right here in the Religious section, I have become much more educated on Jehovah's Witnesses and what they believe, and also Gnosticism, of which I was completely ignorant before.

  • Honestly, yes, I became a Pastafarian and met some hilarious women here. I also indoctrinated my 13 year old son and he thinks FSM is so cool. We are planning on recruiting some of his friends this weekend, argghh matey, kids are easy to recruit and we have great parties, the pastabilities are endless. Ramen my friends.

  • Well, I can say that I have been lead to question my faith because of what I have seen on CM (and IRL). That's not a bad thing though. Blind faith can be a dangerous thing.

I have enjoyed the intelligent conversations about other beliefs though, and have learned quite a bit.

  • I ask a question " how did you come to know God?" and I received some heartfelt an touching answers. I still haven't found God though. I wanted someone to draw me a map because I just don't understand how people are so moved by faith and how they can FEEL God. I want to feel God too, but I guess its not as simple as a map.  Hopefully I'll live long enough to figure it out.

  • I'm the above anon..... I also have learned a lot about Islam. All the info you get in America is tainted, just like I'm sure info on America in Islamic countries is a bit tainted. It's refreshing to have another's perspective.

  • Not by an argument, no. But in discussions where people of different beliefs come together in mutual respect, yes. There are groups here on CafeMom that offer that, and I have benefited from those groups, the conversations we have, and the friendships forged because of them.
