Galveston and surrounding areas, TX

We'd like to take a family mini-vacation away from the snow, and we're looking at the Galveston area. We would be there the last week of March and plan on walking the beach, going to NASA, and just relaxing!
Last year we went to San Antonio and it wasn't crowded at all...but we're a little afraid the coast might be packed with spring breakers. We don't want to have to fight crowds, or be in with a bunch of rowdy kids.
We've been looking for hotels in the area, but we're concerned that they may be a bit beat up from the spring break crowd, so we're thinking that staying in Houston may be a possibility. We'd do a few day trips to the coast.
Any info. would be greatly appreciated! :)

  • Our spring breakers go further south like to Padre Island. Galveston will still be chilly in March. Be sure to check out the botanical gardens while you're there.
