Is there something such as breastfeeding disorder?

I've read many Cafemom post regarding breastfeeding. Many moms would love to breastfeed but they comment that the baby couldn't latch.

Do you think that the Medical Community should give a name to this condition and work on a treatment for this.

  • That would be one more "disorder" that only happens in America/ wealthy nations. We like to label everything a sickness so our Big Pharma friends can come up with a pill or therapy to cure it.

Babies and postpartum women aren't experiencing the most graceful time of their lives in those first few weeks when nursing is established. It's okay to have a clumsy time. The only "disorder" is a cultural prohibition on supporting new nursing couples in favor of the bottle and formula (so Nestle et al can make some money.)

  • I think that as long this issue is being address. I won't matter what name the disorder is being given.
