  • If you want to run a catering or any type of food business from your home, you will need to have your cooking facilities inspected & certified by the local health inspector. There are numerous regulations that you must follow, so I expect the first thing you should do is find out from your local health department what the legal requirements are for a home based food business. You should also find out if you need a license to operate or if there are any restrictions for your neighborhood for running a business from your home. You'll also need insurance (what if someone sues you for your food making them sick?), a name for your business, a separate bank account, start up funds, the means to advertise, acceptable transportation of your product...And so much more! You should take some small business courses and/or catering classes at your local community college, 'cause that'd be a huge step up in getting you going.

  • First, you need a sanitation license and you need to get your kitchen certified (almost impossible for a home kitchen); you would be better off renting a commercial kitchen.
