Does stress affect the baby even if it is early in the pregnancy?

  • Yes, it's a horrible thing. Mostly because when you are pregnant it's hard NOT to be stressed at at least one point or another.

  • The first trimester is actually the MOST important time for development so yes stress in the first trimester can be extremely detramental.

  • Please don't be getting stressed about your stress though. I'm sure stress affects a fetus, yes. But, look around the world and back through time. Women have gotten pregnant and carried babies through extremely stressful and even traumatic situations (famine, war, slavery etc). I agree we don't want to do things that increase the risk of anything happening to our babies and you should certainly do what you can to reduce your stress levels, but remember that the human race is very resiliant.
