Using reconciliation to ram through complicated, far-reaching legislation is an abuse of the budget process. The writers of the Budget Act, and I am one, never intended for its reconciliation’s expedited procedures to be used this way. These procedures were narrowly tailored for deficit reduction. They were never intended to be used to pass tax cuts, or to create new Federal regimes.
…While I support the admirable budget priorities outlined in this resolution, I cannot and will not condone legislation that puts political expediency ahead of the time-honored purpose of this institution.
Here is a list of the uses of reconcilliation in the past. NOTHING even comes close to what the Dems are proposing now.
I do not understand the constant "they did it so we can too" thing. If it wasn't right the first time, you certainly DON'T do it again. Personally, I think they need to axe this process altogether.

Well of course Republicans are going to cry foul NOW, after they have used budget reconciliation 17 of the last 22 times. None of those acts being "small potatoes" either.
This wouldnt be the first time that Reconciliation was used to push through a health care measure. COBRA, CHIP, changes to medicare all were done through budget reconciliation. Were you crying then?
