Is it common for mothers to practice "discriminatory breastfeeding"?

I'm talking about choosing who to breastfeed. I know of family where of the 5 kids only 2 where breastfed exclusively. The other 3 never got to be breastfed. Do you think that this is common in any large family?

  • No, but maybe she didn't know about bfeeding with the first 3 and only tried it with the last 2, or maybe she didn't have the support to do it with the first 3, or maybe she had someone who was willing to help with feedings with the last 2 if she bottle fed them. I don't think it's common - I bfed all 4 of mine and will bfeed my daughter due in July (will be #5) because I don't see a reason not to, but I'm sure she had her reasons.
