When should my son be able to wipe his own butt after pooping?

He will be 4 in July. Does he need to be able to wipe his own butt in preschoo? Hes going to preschool this fall. Thanks!

  • Yes. A preschool teacher doesn't have time to wipe each kids butt. Besides it will be easier and less embarrassing to teach him now than it will be when he is older.

  • I'd just tell him that the teacher won't be able to help him and to just do the best job he can himself.

  • considering that most MEN out there can't successfully wipe their own butts I wouldn't worry to much about it.
my husband hasn't caught on as to why I always wash his underwear separate from everything else!!

  • He needs to be able to handle ALL potty issues on his own before preschool or Kindergarten. In my preschool, we can NOT help kids in the bathroom at all. They must be COMPLETELY potty trained.

  • being able to go potty on your own and actually cleaning your llittle tushie are 2 different things to me. a kid pre k may go to the potty by themselves, but as far as cleaning all the way.. no one would know lol. i have 2 big boys and I still check them. i agree with anon 7:58... I wash my husband things seperately. Men Men Men... idk
