  • Saipan IS an island. It's in the US Commonwealth of the Marianas, in the South Pacific. Not a state. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saipan

  • It's not a state. It is an island. It's part of the Northern Mariana Islands. It is a commonwealth in political union with the United States. The island of Saipan is considered to be the commonwealth's capital.

Did I just do someone's homework for them?

  • I guess I worded my answer wrong, sorry, it's way past my bedtime. An island can be a sate. But in this case it's not a state. I got the right information in there, just not necessarily in the right order.
