Does your wedding ring itch?

I got married last week. The ring is terribly itchy... I dont know if its just because I'm not used to wearing jewelry or I'm allergic to gold or something. I wear gold earrings and they itch alittle, but not near as bad.

Does your wedding ring itch?
If not, did it in the beginning?
Is it something you just have to get used to?
How do I find out if I'm allergic to gold?

  • I've worn a wide 10k gold band for 24 years, and only rarely get itchy under that ring.

    1. The ring might have some nickel in it, which is a common allergen.
    2. The irritation might be from soap or moisture under the ring. Try removing your ring when you wash your hands, and dry thoroughly before putting it back on.

  • When I was married and wore my ring it would only itch really bad if there was moisture under the ring. I would have to take it off and let my finger air out. The summer time sucked too when my fingers would swell. It would itch like crazy then too.

  • ^^^^ Yep same here. Just take it off, clean off the ring and let it dry and let your finger go a day or two without the ring on.

  • I'm allergic to nickle, and gold has it in it as a filler, especially the harder golds like anything under 24K.

I had to get a sterling silver ring instead of the gold.

luckily though, I like sterling silver better than gold.

  • I agree with the moisture under the ring. Let it dry. Handwashing can cause it. My ring is platinum and I don't have issues with this one, but it is also able to move around on my finger to where moisture can't get trapped underneath it.
If it keeps up, I'd go see your doc about it.
