  • how about taking a pregnancy test? that is a better way to tell!

  • Not always, and it depends on your usual color. Later in pregnancy the vulva does become engorged with blood, which can give it a bluish tint. I agree, if you're worried just take a test :)

  • It is called the Chadwick's sign and yes it CAN be a sign of pregnancy.. However, it doesn't always mean pregnancy. Take a test or call your Dr.

  • I agree with anon. All those old wive's tales about your vulva getting darker or your nipples or increase vein visibilty while pregnant aren't reliable. Just take a test.

  • It is true that women tend to look purple or bluish in the vagina because of increased blood flow BUT that is NOT a good way to determine if you are pregnant or not.

Unless you check yourself daily to determine what color your vaginal tissues are at different times of the month it would in no way indicate to you one way or another that you are pregnant.

I would recommend taking a pregnancy test if you think you might be pregnant.

If you don't have very much money you can look for a local pregnancy resource center or women's clinic that preforms free pregnancy test or go to Dollar General. They have 1 dollar pregnancy test that, according to, have one of the most sensitive HCG detectors on the market.

    Good Luck to you!

  • Thriving mom.. the Chadwick's sign is not a old wives tale, it is a "medical" term.

  • Actually they are talking about your cervix, not necessarily anything you could see without a speculum and a bright light!

A pregancy test is a much better way to find out!

  • Pulled right out of the medical dictionary....a sign of pregnancy that develops after the sixth week and consists of a dark bluish or purplish-red color of the vaginal or cervical mucosa as a result of increased blood supply to the area.

  • You can even get a pregnancy test at most 99c stores and they work just fine!
