  • I do! I always make my apple crisp with the Fruit crisp recipe from the Better Homes and Gardens cookbook:

5 Cups sliced, peeled cooking apples
2 to 4 Tablespoons granulated sugar
    1/2 Cup regular rolled oats
    1/2 Cup packed brown sugar
    1/4 Cup all-purpose flour
    1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    1/4 Cup butter

    1. For filling put apples in a 2-qt square baking dish and mix in granulated sugar.
    2. For topping, in a medium bowl combine the oats, brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon. Cut in butter (I just mix it with my hands) until mixture resembles course crumbs. Sprinkle over filling.
    3. Bake at 375 for 30-35 minutes.

*Cherry Crisp: Prepare as above, except, for filling combine 1/2 Cup sugar and 3 Tablespoons all purpose flour. Toss with 5 cups fresh or frozen unsweetened pitted tart red cherries.

  • As tasty as apple pie, but healthier. Good cold, fabulous hot.

    Apple Crisp

4 cups peeled and sliced apples
    1 Tablespoon lemon juice
1/3 cup whole wheat pastry flour
    1 cup old-fashioned oats
1/2 cup sucanat, or other sugar
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
    1/3 cup butter, melted

Place apples in shallow baking dish; sprinkle with lemon juice. Combine dry ingredients, add melted butter, mixing until crumbly. Spoon over apples. Bakeat 375 degrees for about 30 minutes or until lightly browned and apples are done

I usually throw in a handful of dried cranberries.
