What are some alternative ideas to candy filled eggs for egg hunts?

Toys are usually to large, and funds are limited. No one wants to take the fun out of this seasonal tradition, but the candy thing is way over done. We tell children to eat their veggies, but teach them to binge on cheap sugary treats, argh!

  • you can get a few big toys, and put tickets to trade in the eggs. leave some of the eggs empty so the ones with prizes are more fun for them.

  • money. Coins. OR if it's for your kids, little coupons-- stay up late one night, or you choose dinner. Whatever gets them excited.

  • oh, and maybe decorate real eggs and have that be the fun, instead of buying the plastic eggs.

  • Maybe stickers..Sometimes you can buy a whole big pack for a couple dollars. Or if they are girls cute hair things or those things from the dollar store that are capsules and when you put in water they turn into sponge animals..

  • They have little toys designed for eggs. I saw some cute ones at Target. There also at Walmart and Walgreens.

  • Almost all of my ideas were taken. I have used Chuck E Cheese tokens, too though.

  • My favorites are stickers, little cars (like hotwheels but smaller unless you have bigger eggs), little costume jewelry.
