  • I'd run it by your pediatrician and ask what amount is safe and see if your dentist agrees. I'm all for making a dental visit less traumatic if its safe.

  • It does help the child to relax and be calm during the procedure. I used to work with a General DDS who would put N2O on every child. When my own son (who has high functioning Autism) had his 1st cavity done at age 11, the Peds DDS he saw used N2O on him and it really helped. Dentists who use N2O are trained in how to use it, they know how much is 'safe' and they know how long each procedure is and time out how long it will be used and when to turn the nitrous off and turn just the oxygen on.
