Could Government Ban Fishing?

The Obama administration will accept no more public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing the nation’s oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and even inland waters
Consequently, unless anglers speak up and convince their Congressional representatives to stop this bureaucratic freight train, it appears that the task force will issue a final report for “marine spatial planning” by late March, with President Barack Obama then issuing an Executive Order to implement its recommendations.
Led by NOAA’s Jane Lubchenco, the task force has shown no overt dislike of recreational angling, but its indifference to the economic, social and biological value of the sport has been deafening…

  • As ESPN previously reported, WWF, Greenpeace, Defenders of Wildlife, Pew Environment Group and others produced a document entitled “Transition Green” shortly after Obama was elected in 2008.

“With what’s being created, the same principles could apply inland as apply to the oceans,” he said. “Under the guise of ‘marine spatial planning’ entire watersheds could be shut down, even 2,000 miles up a river drainage from the ocean.

  • They are hellbent on destroying the economy aren't they. My state, Oregon is still reeling from the feds putting a halt to the logging industry. Tourism is a HUGE part of the economy and a HUGE part of that is lakes/streams/rivers fishing! We have hatcheries all over the state and rules of on size and even when you can fish for what. This is just shear stupidity.

It makes me think of my Granddaddy, bless his soul. He had several ponds on his land and he stocked them with catfish. He owned the ponds, bought the catfish and then had to wait for them to mature before he could catch and eat them. Granddaddy pitched a fit when they started requiring a fishing license to fish from those very ponds! He never bought a license and swore to fight any fine all the way to the supreme court. Thankfully, it was a small town and the game wardens thought the law was just as stupid as Granddaddy did.

  • Where did you copy and paste that from?

  • This is sure to lose him some support from those that depend on bringing home a fish on Sunday to feed the family. What a horrible idea. I can't figure out if it's an environmental issue, or just a way to control the food source. You know, it's easier to take over when they control most everything. Starving people will agree to damned near anything if it means getting fed.
