  • I think there is more to it then that though. I know someone is going to tell me to google it. My kids have gotten something sticky on the keyboard. Great. Now I have to clean it. Lovely.

  • It's a song sung by Doris Day. There's a lot more to it.

  • You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray
You'll never know dear how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away.
The other night dear as I was sleeping
I dreamed I held you in my arms.
When I awoke dear I was mistaken
And I hung my head and I cried.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray
You'll never know dear how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away.

    You told me once dear
    That you really loved me
And no one else could come between
    But now you’ve left me
    And you love another
You have shattered all my dreams

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray
You'll never know dear how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away.

  • pixie is right except the last verse is...When I woke dear I was mistaken, and I hung my head and cried. It's really sad actually.

  • It's on the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack. Here's a youtube link

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkNbMZhEGEw

I don't know how to make it clickable so you'll have to copy and paste, sorry.

I don't know if I consider it sad, but it does make me cry sometimes. We sang it to my Grandpa the night before he died when all my family was together in his hospital room, so it can bring back those memories. But on the other hand it's always been a song my family has sung to/with babies and kids, so it has those happy memories for me too.

Anyway the verion in the link is by Norman Blake and it's from around the Depression, late 1930's or 1940, so if you look at the mood of the country then, it fits.

  • I sing the first verse to my daughter, but I put her name in it, substituting sunshine.
