Do convertible seats have a base?

Do convertible seats have a base that you can use in different cars and just snap the seat into or do we have to lug the whole thing out each time? I'm confused about this. Thanks!

  • Mine has a base, but its a pain to get the actual seat out of it, you have to pull this metal bar out to release the seat. I am pretty sure that once they are installed its easier to just take the whole seat out. We just lug it from one car to the other.

  • Ours does not have a base, so we have to move the whole shebang if someone else drives. We have the Cosco Scenera.

  • A removable one? Not that I am aware of.

  • Mine does but it is only for rear facing for that seat. It really is just easier to move the whole seat. We have a Radian 80 by sunshine kids. The seat itself weighs about 30 pounds.

  • the removable part on my seat is to make it slimmer.

but no, there isn't a base to click into and out of like a baby carrier.

you've got to buckle the whole thing in each time.
