When did you give your toddler a pillow?

MY 18 month old sleeps with a teddy and mostly its under his head. I am wondering if he needs a pillow because he looks so uncomfortable. Do you give your toddler a pillow? If so when did you start? Where did you get a toddler sized pillow? And do you use a pillowcase?

  • I think 18 months is OK. The main conrcern is that babies are not strong enough to lift their head and make sure they have a proper airway. Certainly by 18 months a child is strong enough.

  • I waited until mine were out of the crib and into a bed. So, for the first one it was 22 months and the second at 17 months. Then I just used a regular pillow with a pillow case.

  • Around 20 months. At Bed Bath and Beyond, I found what they called a travel pillow; it's about half the size of a regular one. They sell pillow covers for them. I put it into a standard pillowcase, with the wide side in first, then tuck the extra pillowcase fabric inside the case, and under the pillow. It works quite well.

  • my dd was using a pillow by 12 mts. before that she would fall asleep on one, but as soon as she was really asleep would take the pillow away

  • Wal Mart sells travel pillows and cases. It works great for little ones. My kids all started using pillows around their 1st birthdays. I think at 18 months a pillow will be fine.

  • I gave my kids pillows around 9 months. I bought a small throw pillow from Wal-Mart.

  • My kids all got pillows around 9 to 12 mths. I used the travel pillows that you can get pretty much anywhere.

  • Mine slept with me until he was almost 21 months, but he got a pillow after that when we moved him to his own bed.
