Is basa fish safe to consume when pregnant?

My husband and I were going to go to a fish and chips dinner. I called the company to find out what fish theyused and its basa fish. The midwives I am seeing told me to stay away from swordfish, shark, tilefish, king mackerel or fresh tuna. They also said to stay away from freshwater fish. Does anyone know if basa is a freshwater fish? I looked online but no websites really confirmed or denyed of it was safe to eat while pregnant. The only thing i really did find was that it is a type of catfish and some sites say catfish is freshwater while others say it is not too high in mercury.

  • I wouldn't eat it, I didn't mess around with fish when I was pregnant. If you can't get confirmation on whether or not it's safe then just don't eat it! Sorry, I'm sure this isn't much help :/

  • Nope, I wouldn't risk it either. I've never heard of it.
