what are some meals that can be made from ONLY non-perisible foods???

A friend of mine is living in a shelter and can only use non-perisible foods to cook with (anything that needs refridgerated is kept in the kitchen and anyone can and has used it, and they can't get to the store often to just come straight back and use the stuff they bought). So this friend needs ideas for things to eat.I've given her a few ideas but I would like to pass along any ideas you gals might have!!!

  • There is always Green Beans with diced Tomatoes (Italian seasoned works best but with her living arrangement's it may not be possible). There is also Green bean salad (Verity of different green beans). Black bean Tuna salad (if access to mayo). These are a few.

  • you can make a lot of things you just have to change the way you shop. buy canned meats like tuna, canned ham, vienna sausages. or things that have meat in them like canned soups. you can find pretty much any kind of canned vegetable. buy things like saltines to make pb & j on (bread too, but since you might not be able to keep as much of it on hand before it molds) also pb & j on tortillas (i know it sounds weird but my daughter loves them. make sandwiches with canned ham or vienna sausages instead of lunch meats. also things like beef jerky & nuts. use small jars of pimento cheese on sammies. also they have those complete meals in a box. it's not the healthiest way to eat but under the circumstances it can work & it wont be forever. good luck to your friend!

  • oatmeal if you don't mind going without the milk.

spanish rice (rice-a-roni) rolled-up in tortillas

PBJ quesadillas (sounds gross but my kiddos wanted to try it heated up and they loved it. * don't put too much peanut butter on it it melts)

canned veggie soup- canned veggies, beef broth, can of diced tomatoes

small jar of salsa mixed with white rice, black beans and corn

velveeta mac n cheese and add tuna (peas)

  • Mabey she could get a little cooler to put lunch meat and stuff in,a bag of ice would last almost two days if not more and that way they could at least have something other than canned stuff.
